Lips Sync Challege

Music Video:

Evaluation:

I have gained some notable lessons throughout the process of making and editing this lips sync music video, be it being mind-blowed by my first-time experience with the green screen and matching the lyrics sound with the visual. While I was amazed by those practices because it was my first time toying around with them in a studio, the thing that satisfied me the most was the pop-up message text, which cost the most of my editing time. I found this visual effect to be captivating, giving a mild transparent opacity to adhere to the modern look/ science-fiction vibe of the background while conforming to a convention of the pop music genre, which is related to the theme of love. Additionally, this practice allowed me to experiment with various exercises: nesting, setting up the keyframe, layering effects, etc. The lighting on the cast was mild and blended fine with the natural skin throughout the camera lens, which shortened our color grading stage afterward. Besides, my teammate and I were able to accustomed to the lack of resources, and we initially created the mise-en-scenes on our own: DIY sunglasses and broken hearts paper.

In contrast to the success, I was quite neglected in the planning stage of the project, thinking that this was just a minor task, and didn't make a deliberate plan to record different footage for editing, which my partner and I ended up filming only one setup throughout the whole song. Consequentially, the main character lacks dynamic movements (our cast looks static mostly), and there is a shortage of diverse motion capture poses to splash on numerous visual effects experiments.

Next time, I will make sure that I plan out my video vision before committing to recording the music video and distributing a polished version on YouTube. If given more time, I think I would learn to execute some sound mixing practices to augment the intensification of the music, which I want to lead the video to a science-fiction vibe while still conforming to the pop music convention.
